THE DOMAINE

Domaine Annie Derain is a very small domaine whose parcels are located in the villages of Mercurey and Givry in the Côte Chalonnaise.
This domaine has 0.75 hectares of Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise and 0.72 hectares of Givry and Givry 1er Cru..
Winemaking is a complementary activity for Annie Derain, who has retained some of her family’s vineyards.

THE WINES

Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise:
The vineyards, aged over 50 years and west-facing, grow on the limestone terrain of the village of Mercurey.
The shallow soil at the bottom of the parcel is made up of fairly warm, gravelly earth, which is easy to work.
Planted with Pinot Noir outside the Mercurey appellation area, it produces a fine, elegant Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise.
Annual production is around 5,000 bottles, presented in "antique-style" Burgundy bottles.

Givry:
The Givry vineyards are divided into two parcels on the slopes of the hamlet of Russilly in Givry.
The soil is very gravelly, susceptible to erosion and conducive to low yields.
The two parcels of Pinot Noir are 30 and 35 years old.

The Givry 1er Cru “en Choué”:
The parcel is located at the top of an amphitheatre which faces directly south. Here the shallow, gravelly soil has a high fossil content.
To the west and south, the “en Choué” parcel is surrounded by a limestone wall made from stones dug up from the ground by wine growers past, who also built a remarkable “cadole” there. A cadole is a type of small stone shelter which can sometimes be seen in the middle of the vineyards.
The 30-year-old vineyard is planted with a particular variety of Pinot Noir producing small-berried grapes.
The yield of about 45 hectolitres per hectare results in rich, fruity wines, with a surprisingly long finish.
Annual production is around 1,500 bottles.
