Qui sommes-nous ?

Domaine Chofflet

Jonathan Brunot

After a varied and unconventional career path – which included business school, Saint Cyr military school, an OIV Master of Science in Wine Management, working on a farm in Argentina and overseeing the Domaine de L’Abbaye de Lerins (Provence) for two years – Jonathan Brunot took over the Domaine from his father-in-law Denis Valdenaire in June 2019, after a three years’ apprenticeship.

Jonathan was responsible for returning the original name ‘Domaine Chofflet’ to the property of 14.5 ha, which dates back to 1710 ; this has been marked with the introduction of a new label and bottle.

Having always been lured to working on the land, and following in the footsteps of his father-in-law, he practices la viticulture raisonnée, and as a consequence weeding has been strictly carried out by hand since 2017.

You will be won over by the approachability and fruitiness of the wines from Domaine Chofflet – this is surely a domaine to watch closely.

THE DOMAINE

Located in Russilly, a hamlet of Givry in the Côte Chalonnaise, where meadows and vineyards sit side-by-side amid gently rolling countryside, Domaine Chofflet extends over 15 hectares. It is concentrated within the same appellation: Givry.

The vinification methods are classic, but the domaine keeps itself up-to-date with new equipment such as a pneumatic press or air conditioning in the vat room, to better control the quality of the product.

THE WINES

The wines of the Givry appellation are multi-faceted and exciting to work with.

Very typical of the appellation, with notes of blackcurrants and red berries, the Clos de Choué is a great expression of its terroir.

The Clos Jus, on the other hand, has a unique and very unusual character, with a very solid frame, often accentuated by aromas of ripe, almost jammy, fruit.

Each, with its own personality, knows how to charm.  A short vatting period, followed by fairly long ageing, are the techniques used by the domaine to extract the fruit, brought out in the grape by the vigneron.
