Saint-Amour 2023
89
The 2023 Saint-Amour opens on the nose with notes of brown spices, red cherries, raspberries and cut stems, with a slight reduction that fades with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, the wine flows along the palate with charm, lifted by bright acidity that keeps it fresh and tangy. Loose-knit chalky tannins provide a soft framework, resulting in a juicy, quaffable wine with an added touch of refinement.
Established in 2010 by father-and-son duo Florent and André Berrod, Domaine des Fonds boasts a portfolio of 19 hectares spread across Beaujolais Villages, Saint-Vérand, Fleurie, Saint-Amour, Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent. Notably, their Saint-Amour holdings have seen significant expansion in recent years, now totaling six hectares. The vineyards are tended under the HVE (High Environmental Value) certification for sustainability while nourishing the soils with cover crops. They are currently exploring organic farming practices, dedicating two hectares to this endeavor, although not officially certified.
In the cellar, 60% to 80% of the grapes are destemmed followed by a 12- to 16-day vinification with punch-downs for the first five days of fermentation, followed by pump-overs twice daily thereafter. The wines are aged in concrete for 10 months, followed by an additional year of aging in bottle.

Fleurie Les Garants 2022
91
The 2022 Fleurie Les Garants is a wine of great complexity, with brooding aromas of blackberries, spice and dried floral notes. The palate is suave with a core of black fruits and layered notes of licorice, candied rinds and dried herbs. Medium to full-bod ied, the wine offers a piquant texture given its spicular tannins, while the interplay between the ripe black fruits, subtle bitters and hints of salinity brings a captivating sense of tension on the palate. The joint experiences of the tannins and the tension lead to a precise, crisp finish. The wine is set to only improve as the tannins further integrate.

Saint-Amour 2022
89
The 2022 Saint-Amour opens in the glass with a bouquet of pomegranate, red cherries, powdery rose petals, cherry blossoms and ginger. The wine is initially flashy in the mouth, showcasing weighty flavors of dried red fruits and brown spices. These flavors persist throughout the palate; however, the volume gradually diminishes as it succumbs to the weight of the youthful tannins, resulting in a blunt finish.

Fleurie 2022
88
Aromas of tuberose petals, kirsch, red plums, orange peel and brown spices introduce the 2022 Fleurie. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a supple concentration of candied fruit and floral tones weighed down by a lining of youthfully firm tannins that will need more time to resolve; luckily, the wine will spend another few months aging in bottle before it is released ... a uniquely sturdy Fleurie.

Saint-Amour

Bright violet. Ripe dark berries, candied flowers and allspice on the fragrant nose. Smooth and seamless in texture, offering appealingly sweet blackberry and spicecake flavors that become more energetic as the wine opens up. Pliant and expansive on the persistent finish, which features velvety tannins and resonating spiciness.
