Remi Dupuis

"At the age of 10, I was already working with my father ... You don%u2019t become a wine-grower unless you love the work%u201D.

THE DOMAINE

Les Verchères is a hamlet nestling in the Royer valley in the heart of the Mâcon Mancey appellation. Here, the Dupuis family has worked 27 hectares of vines for 3 generations. The vineyards are planted with Chardonnay (13 ha), Gamay (8 ha), Pinot Noir (5 ha) and Aligoté (1 ha).

The Mâcon-Villages white wine comes predominantly from Royer’s “terres blanches”, but the Mâcon Mancey red prefers the red soils of “Les Cras”. The "terroir" faces south-southeast, where the bedrock breaks through the surface, naturally reducing the yields.

THE VINEYARDS

The Domaine is unusual in that it practices mulching with straw. In some parcels, the rows with covered with straw, laid down in November each year, alternate with rows planted with grass.
Besides the addition of humus, Remi Dupuis has noticed that his soils are better aerated and have greater microbial life.
Due to this practice, he has virtually eliminated the use of herbicides and fertilizers. The positive impact on the environment is obvious.

THE WINES

The Domaine's white wines are soft and supple. These are fruity wines for early drinking.  Maceration on the skins is short and followed by fermentation entirely in vat at 18°C.  Bottling is carried out as soon as malo-lactic fermentation is completed.

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir presents a silky structure and a touch of freshness. It shows lovely red fruit on the nose.

The Mâcon Mancey red is typical of the Domaine’s wines: elegant with fine tannins… This wine is best enjoyed young.

The Domaine produces the following appellations:

- Mâcon Villages

- Bourgogne Chardonnay

- Mâcon Mancey Rouge

- Bourgogne Pinot Noir
