Above all, I%u2019m an artisan!

In 1972, Charles and Jean Joseph Flandre recreated a family-owned domaine with 12 Ha of Montagny 1er Cru vineyards, in Montagny les Buxy, in the hamlet of Montorge, in the south of the Côte Chalonnaise.  The family produced and aged wines from great terroirs such as "Les Chaniots" and "Les Coères".  Yann (Jean Joseph’s second son) took over the domaine in 2014, perpetuating 40 years of family savoir-faire, and adding to it an outstanding climat: Le Montorge, a monopoly.

Yann Flanders works the 12 ha of vineyards in which he uses grass cover, which helps combat erosion and enhances the aeration and life in the soil.

The domaine’s vineyards are planted at a density of 8,000 vines/ha, so are 20% less dense than the other vineyards in Burgundy. They are also trained higher.  Yann Flanders is very pleased with this decision. "The work is facilitated and the vines are better ventilated (the domaine is situated on a windy promontory) so are less susceptible to diseases."

The Montagny terroirs endow the wines with a lovely minerality, Yann Flanders prefers to harvest the grapes a little later to allow them to mature for longer.  In terms of winemaking, this winemaker’s byword is “drinkability”.

"If you let the terroir speak, Montagny is the perfect wine for enjoying from the aperitif through to the dessert."
