Origine
The Morgon appellation covers 1,100 hectares and produces an average of 55,000 hl per year. Its soil is made up of schist or granite. Morgon is described as the most «Burgundy of the Beaujolais crus». The Domaine’s Morgon comes from the “Grand Cras” climat, where the deep soil is composed of granitic alluvium. The Gamay vines are around 55 years of age, planted at a density of 10,000 plants per hectare and pruned to the Gobelet style.
Vinification
Harvesting is carried out by hand. The grapes go into vat in whole bunches without crushing or destemming. The vinification and ageing take place in temperature-controlled vats.
Notes de dégustation
The wine displays a bright, carmine hue with crimson highlights
It is dominated by very ripe black fruit along with citrus and spicy overtones on the nose.
Fresh on entry to the palate, it is harmonious throughout and underpinned by perceptible yet silky tannin. A delicious treat of a wine, not to be missed!
Mets d'accompagnements
The wine will age well for 5 to 10 years.
This Morgon is particularly good with meat, ideally beef (particularly our local Charolais beef!). The freshness of the red fruit flavours enables the wine to pair well with meat-in-sauce dishes, such as coq au vin or beef bourguignon.
