Origine
Worthy of a 1er cru! "Les Hâtes" is one of Santenay village’s best terroirs We could discuss its classification for hours, because this appellation is very close to being a 1er cru. Close in terms of geography, as it is literally surrounded by the Santenay 1ers crus, and close in quality terms too. Our parcel sits in the heart of the “Les Hâtes” climat, in the Clos. This unique wine derives its distinctive character from the fact that the vineyard is planted inside a clos. The vines are protected and the soil is subjected to very little erosion, growing in well-drained limestone soil on a gentle slope. The old vines, planted in 1935, are perfect for drawing out the best of a terroir which has retained all its integrity. They have remained in exceptional health and their yield regulates itself quite naturally. The harvested grapes show lovely concentration, with plenty of millerandage.
Vinification
Cold pre-fermentation maceration (4 days), alcoholic fermentation (11 days) post fermentation maceration (10 days). Ageing 14 months: 12 months in barrel on the lees without racking, followed by 2 months in vat. 100% in oak barrels, of which 25% are new.
Notes de dégustation
Our “Clos des Hates” is a wine with a strong personality, a nice mineral character and elegant tannins, even when young. On the nose, there is a lovely balance between the depth of the very ripe dark fruit and the freshness of the red fruit, with lovely hints of spice. A sought-after bottle, just waiting to be discovered ...
