Origine
The Vosne Romanée appellation covers 0.31 ha of the estate's 9.50 ha total land area and is located north of Nuits-Saint-Georges on very silty and sandy soils completely free of pebbles. The vine here is 40 years old (grown on a single parcel). The entire estate is farmed using controlled natural sodding with 2 or 3 clippings a year. Pruning is performed using the Guyot cane technique in some parts and the unilateral cordon training (Royat) for the most robust vine stock.
Vinification
Grapes are manually harvested using a team of 40 pickers working the estate for approximately one week. The technique used calls for 100% destemming and pre-fermentation maceration at 10-12°C for 5-6 days in a concrete tank. The wine is vinified at 28-32°C for 18 to 21 days with one cap immersion per day to incite colour extraction and the presence of phenolic compounds as well as to maintain suppleness. Following pressing, the wines undergo decantation for another 3-5 days in a holding vat before barrelling (15% new barrels). The first racking occurs the following September and the second a month prior to bottling, usually in April of the next year. The wines are drawn without preliminary clarification or filtration.
Notes de dégustation
The Vosne-Romanée label symbolises, above all else, elegance. Its succulence overwhelms, bolstered by discrete tannins and limited acidity. These fleshy wines are highly aromatic and have been graced with a pleasant long finish. The defining characteristics highlight fragrances of cherries, strawberries and forest growth.
Mets d'accompagnements
Roasts, game, meat dishes served in sauce, gourmet cheeses. It can be truly enjoyed after 4 or 5 years, while continuing to age and mature for another few years.
