Origine
Meursault Charmes comes from two parcels, one in the upper part of “Les Charmes”, and the other in the lower part. Vinified separately, they are blended together before bottling.
South of the village of Meursault, below “Les Perrières”, in the middle of the slope between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet.
The terrain is south-facing and the limestone bedrock crumbles easily in places where it is made up of multiple layers of lava and earth. The soil is very stony and loamy, even sandy in places.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and go directly into the press. The pressing operation is smooth and slow in order to extract the grapes’ best constituents. After a light settling, the musts are transferred into French oak barrels (20-25% new oak), where alcoholic fermentation (using indigenous yeasts) will take place, followed by malo-lactic fermentation. After 12-16 months' ageing, the first racking, then a light fining, are carried out. Bottling takes place at the end of the second winter following the harvest.
Notes de dégustation
White gold in colour. Vanilla, honey and white flowers on the nose.
Smooth and fat on the palate, both on entry and on the finish, well-built yet always possessing "charm" and elegance.
Mets d'accompagnements
Pairs well with fish and white meats, dishes such as salmon quenelles, truffled liver terrine, or even a fattened hen in a Nantua sauce.
